DON'T JUST DO SOMETHING - SIT THERE!
There’s an epidemic of loneliness in our country. We’re told that 25% of Americans are lonely. I encourage people who are going through a lonely time – maybe you’re one of them – to find somebody who is also going through a lonely time, perhaps someone who is lonelier than you. Visit with them. You’ll be amazed at the healing you’ll find.
An 80-year-old man sat in the doctor’s office, waiting to get stitches taken out of his hand. A nurse said, “I’ll take you.” He looked like he was in a hurry. She said, “Do you have another appointment?” He said, “Yes, I have breakfast with my wife every day at 9:30.” She said, “Oh, that’s so nice.” He said, “Well, she’s at a nursing home now, and she has Alzheimer’s. She doesn’t recognize me.” The nurse said, “Well, I’m very sorry.” He said, “That’s okay. She doesn’t know me, but I know her, and I minister to her.”
Find somebody who’s going through a lonelier time than you. Be a friend to them.
