what is your gift?

Posted by Pastor John Lewis on

Have you ever met someone who is gifted? Maybe they were gifted in athletics. Maybe they had a musical gift. Maybe they were really smart! The truth is each of us has at least one gift. That’s right, you have at least one gift. Perhaps it’s not in sports or the arts, but the bible says that each one of us has been given a gift. There are a number of gifts that the bible says we are given. If I asked your friends what gift you have, what do you think they would say it is? Some of us have the gift of leadership, teaching or encouragement. Some of us have the gift of helping others. Some of us even have the gift of making things run smoothly. Google “spiritual gifts” for a complete list. All of the gifts we’re given are to make the world a better place.

Do you remember two years ago watching YouTube “Britain's Got Talent?” A woman by the name of  Susan Boyle stepped out on the stage and wanted to be a great singer, but the people just laughed at her. They made fun of her because her outward appearance wasn’t the glitz and glamour they’d come to expect. Members of the audience could be seen rolling their eyes. But when she opened her mouth and began to sing, her voice was like that of the angels. People’s initial attitudes about her were changed. She had an amazing voice that was perfection to their ears. The rolling eyes changed to looks of shock at the incredible talent this woman had to offer. The resounding applause proved she had what it took to be a star. But her talent was on the inside. She was willing to take a risk. She was willing to take her one talent that God had given her and make the world a better place. What is your gift? More importantly, are you willing to use it?

Take a look one more time at this video. You can’t help but be inspired. Everybody gets something. God is waiting to see what you will do with it.

Scripture: Matthew 25:21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.Come and share your master’s happiness!’"

Prayer:  Lord, help me use the gift you have given me to make the world around me a better place.  Amen
